Help repair broken teeth due to decay or trauma
Dental bonding involves applying a tooth-colored resin material to restore chipped, discolored, decayed, or cracked teeth. It’s a common dental procedure that is also highly efficient in terms of how little tooth enamel is removed during the procedure.
Dental bonding can be a good fit for some patients, depending on the severity and complexity of the situation. However, it isn’t always the right choice for areas of the mouth that experience significant bite pressure. Dental bonding is also an effective way to temporarily fix minor defects and is often used for cosmetic procedures. Dental bonding is often used to:
- Repair chipped or cracked teeth
- Whiten discolored tooth or teeth
- Repair teeth that have begun to decay due to cavities
- Protect a root exposed by receding gums
- Alter the shape and/or length of teeth
- Narrow spaces between teeth
- Serve as an alternative to amalgam fillings
What Is the Dental Bonding Process?
To start, one of our dental professionals will match the color of your tooth to the composite resin. Next, the tooth’s surface will be textured, and then a conditioning liquid will be applied. While the resin hardens, your dentist may do some final shaping to achieve the final, desired effect. The entire procedure normally lasts 30-60 minutes.
Because dental bonding is a minimally invasive procedure, anesthesia is typically not required unless the tooth needs shaping before the bonding process. Also, the process typically only requires one appointment since dental bonds are applied on the spot by your dentist, unlike dental crowns and veneers that need to be created off-site in a lab.
